Looking for a good book?
I've given Reading Matters a catchier name but it’s the same site. Yakbooks is about books and ideas for children and teenagers. It is written for intelligent young readers who are keen to choose their own books. Adults can join in too. The reviews cover both classics and modern books, from 1858 (The Coral Island) to now (Shadows, March 2018). The full list of reviews is on the Books page. There is also a list by Authors. The latest book reviews are:
- The Iron Trial by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare
- Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld
- The Explorer by Katherine Rundell
- Shadows by Meaghan McIsaac
- The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge
If you're feeling lucky, use Lucky dip! to go straight to a random book review. (Some of the books are for children and some are for quite mature readers.) When you've read about a book, you'll find suggestions on what to read next. There are also articles about some of the ideas behind the books.
